About Alex

Hi there, I am Alex and I am part of the duo behind Brigstone Stable.

From my childhood I have always had an affinity with the North of England….. Although I grew up in Nottingham, my father has always been a keen hiker and I can remember walking Scafell Pike and Pen – Y – Ghent with him when I was a kid. Seems almost fate that I would now live within site of the later now.

Myself and Amanda hatched a plan to move to Yorkshire in around 2016 and after three years of looking, we found Brigstone House and spent the next two and a half, creating the Stable.

I have spent a good deal of my working life in the Sportsturf industry and I have natural affinity to the outdoors and wide-open spaces as a whole. I am a keen cyclist and runner and over the last couple of years have got far more into trail running now that I can easily leave the tarmac behind. I have signed up for the Burnsall Half Marathon for April 2022 and this is my starting point for the year.

My “Palmares” includes The Paris Marathon, The Robin Hood Marathon, The New Forest Marathon x 4 (Running) and L’Etape Du Tour x 2, The Fred Whitton Challenge x 5, The Dragon Ride x 2 and others.

A good friend of mine said that I had an encyclopaedic knowledge of local roads and trails ( which I take as a compliment) and I would like to share this with all – a good number of routes can be found and downloaded here.

On a personal note, I am an animal lover and I love this photo which was taken on The Pennine Way En route to Lothersdale, just a few hundred yards from Brigstone House.

We hope to welcome you to our beautiful part of the world.

About Amanda

Hi, I’m one half of the Brigstone Partnership

I was born in South Yorkshire and spent my first 30 years in Nottinghamshire, where I met & married Alex & where we bought & renovated our first home.

Work took us to Southampton and here we renovated our 2nd home & it’s where Alex bought me my first road bike along with a registration on my first cycling Sportive - The Hampshire Hilly Hundred, during the five short months to train for this 100 mile bike ride I fell in love with cycling and in the following years rode the Dragon Ride twice.

On one of our many trips “north” we decided we wanted to move to Yorkshire, for me it was like coming home, I always thought I was a town girl but it turns out I’m a country girl at heart & my favourite footwear are my wellies or walking boots.

It had always been a dream of mine to own and run a little holiday cottage and so putting our previous renovation skills to good use we renovated Brigstone Stable & have now started on the House.

Between the renovations, running the Stable & working full time, I try to find time to put on my walking boots or cycling shoes, lift my head and stretch my eyes on all this beautiful part of the world has to offer. My current challenge is to do the Three Peaks Challenge this year, I’ve sampled how amazing this is going to be by climbing Pen-Y-Ghent.

I love meeting people & I love sharing what we have with others so they can experience beautiful Lothersdale & Yorkshire, one day when the renovations are complete, we’re as energy efficient as possible & we’re growing more of our own food I may be living my version of the dream.
