Lothersdale is the perfect countryside village, sitting in the triangle formed between Crosshills to the South, Skipton to the North and Colne to West, it could easily be missed.
The village grew around the former mill, whose imposing chimney remains at the heart of skyline. Here you will find the Hare and Hounds Pub, and the licensed Lakeside café and Raygill Fishery, just a mile up the road to the West.
The secluded nature of the village gives much to the history of Quakerism for which the locale is renowned, being quiet and somewhat “off the grid”. The benefit is that Brigstone Stable’s setting is peaceful, rural and relaxing, but close enough to all the local amenities that you may need.
Skipton (just 5 miles to the North) is a bustling market town with many unique shops, coffee houses and eateries but with every essential such as a Tesco, Morrisons, and Marks & Spencer’s Food.
You can easily spend a day wandering around the castle, accessible woodland walk or even take the steam train (during the summer) from Embsay to Bolton Abbey. Slightly further afield are the towns of Hebden Bridge, Otley, Ilkley, Settle, the UNESCO world heritage site at Saltaire and Pendle area of Lancashire. Even the Lake District is just 60 miles away.
The largest draw though, may well be The Yorkshire Dales National Park (situated just 8 miles North), with walking, hiking, cycling, trail and running routes to suit every capability.
Malham Cove, Gordale Scar, the “Three Peaks” and the Ingleton Falls Walk are just a twenty-minute drive away and can be easily visited before the crowds if required.
The lesser known but equally beautiful Forest of Bowland (AONB) is also a stones throw away, and is great for all outdoor pursuits.
